Hebrews 10:25 – “not forsaking our own assembling together, as it is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”
Church is defined as a “building used for public Christian worship” or “an organized body of religious believers.” It’s an assembling or gathering of people together to worship God. After you become a Christian, church is where you go to learn about God, the Bible, and how to live out your Christian life.
When my Mom became a Christian almost 50 years ago, she started going to church and taking me and my siblings with her. She made going to church a priority. I am forever grateful that she made that decision because I grew up going to church every Sunday. When I became an adult, I made the decision to continue to attend church. It’s all I’ve ever known. I believe it’s the best place to be on a Sunday morning.
I would encourage and challenge every Christian to attend church. And if you’re not a Christian but want to find out more about God, the Bible, or how to live out your life biblically, church is a great place to start this journey. Going to church also means that you don’t go on the journey alone; you are going on the journey with others who are on the same journey and will walk with you. It’s where you can be prayed for and be encouraged and challenged at times.
Church is the place where we go to meet with God, worship God, listen, and hear from God through the pastor or speaker. It’s where we learn what the Bible says about how we are to live our lives – not perfectly – but purposefully. It’s going to be very difficult, if not impossible, for you to grow spiritually without going to church.
I love going to church, I love the people at church, and I love serving at church. I am grateful for every pastor, teacher, leader, and everyone else who has spoken God’s Word and truth into my life. Church is where I learned who God is and learned the stories of the Bible. It’s where I learned what my gifts are and how to live my life for God and the way He wants me to live it.
I understand there may be some who can not physically get to church because of a physical or some other type of condition that prevents you from getting there. If this is the case for you, I would still encourage you to find a church that you can watch online regularly and even communicate with the pastor that you are watching.
There are many different denominations and non-denominational churches. Most of my church going years, I have attended an Assemblies of God church, which is a pentecostal, Spirit filled church. If you don’t already go to church , and are interested in looking for one, I would suggest looking for one that is preaching/ teaching from the Bible and one that believes in and teaches God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit. You can usually find out what they believe on their church website.
I hope this has inspired you and given you something to consider if you don’t already attend church. If you do already attend church, don’t stop! If you have attended a church regularly and have not become a member of that church yet, become a member and look for ways to serve. Get involved in the life of the church. Take notes when listening to the sermon. Apply what you learn in the sermon to your life. Go to the midweek Bible Study. Invite others to go to church. These are some of the ways you will grow spiritually.
Now, let’s go to church!
Many blessings,
Desiree
