Psalm 71:23-My lips will shout for joy, when I sing praises to you; my soul also, which you have redeemed.
The soul can be defined as the mind, will and emotions of a person. In Hebrew, the Word is Nephesh. We are commanded to love God with all our hearts, minds, souls and strength. Our soul is a part of our total being.
Our souls can hope in God- Psalm 42:11– Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.
Our souls can love God- Mark 12:30-And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
Our souls can rejoice in God-Psalm 35:9- Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord, exulting in his salvation.
Our souls can know God-Psalm 139:14-I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.
Our souls can bless the Lord- Psalm 103:1,2-Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,
Our souls need to hope, love, rejoice, know, trust etc.
When I go to church and hear the sermon, my soul gets filled with hope and encouragement and challenged to change. The praise and worship music we sing before the sermon opens our hearts to receive the message of the Word. When we leave church, we should leave with God’s presence upon us, our hearts and souls filled with Him.
I believe we can live this way every day by listening to Christian music only every day. I’ve loved Christian music since I was a little girl. It’s the only music I’ve chosen to listen to for most of my life. I prefer to listen to Christian music with lyrics that encourage me, remind me of who God is, who I am in Him, point me to Him, and build my faith. It’s the music I desire to listen to, and more than a desire, it’s a conviction, and I’m grateful for that.
I’m blessed that I am able to listen to Christian music at work, but then I also listen to Christian music in my car on the way to and from work. I listen to it in my home- I just can’t get enough of it. I view Christian music as mini sermons for my soul. It’s how I stay in an atmosphere of Gods presence everyday- it’s so powerful!
These Christian songs lift my spirit, encourage and fill my heart with faith, and strengthen my soul every day. I make declarations when I sing them. They are Holy Spirit inspired. A lot of songs have scripture in them.
Just as I would encourage you to read the Bible every day and pray every day, I would encourage you to listen to Christian music only every day. Daily Bible reading, daily prayer, and daily listening to Christian music only will strengthen you. It will make a difference. Be sure to pay attention to the lyrics and take them to heart. Don’t just let the songs be background noise.
Every day, everywhere you go, choose to listen to Christian music and stay in an atmosphere of God’s presence and get mini sermons for your soul, too.
Many blessings,
Desiree
