Proverbs 4:23- Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.
Psalm 51:10- Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
The heart is the seat of our emotions, desires, and attitudes. God cares about the condition of our hearts because whatever is in our hearts is going to come out in our lives. Our hearts and heads are connected. The things we think about drop into our hearts and what is in our hearts comes out in our actions and words.
We need to make it a daily priority to keep our hearts pure, holy, and clean. We need to make Psalm 51:10 a daily prayer and then listen to what the Holy Spirit is telling us. The Holy Spirit will speak to us- He’s always speaking. The cleaner and purer our hearts are, the better we will be able to hear what the Holy Spirit is saying.
There’s a reason the words HEAR and EAR are in the word HEART. If we want to hear the Holy Spirit more clEARly, we have to clear our hearts of what’s not supposed to be there such as unforgiveness, sin, hurts, offenses, etc.
We need to do a heart check everyday. As Christians, one of our priorities should be to look and act like Jesus more and more every day.
Sometimes what we’ve allowed to settle in our hearts will show up in what we say. Luke 6:45c– for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. Let’s make it a goal to sound like Jesus in the words we say.
The Heart of the Matter is the Heart
Let’s let what we think about be pure, holy, true etc. Philippians 4:8 – Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. We put this verse into practice by reading the Bible everyday, listening to Christian music only, praying, etc. Doing these things will position us to think on all the right things, all the godly things.
When our minds are in a position to think on the right things, then our hearts will be better able to hear what God is saying to us, because they will be cleaner, purer and more holy. The posture of our hearts will reflect the position and direction of our thoughts. We can’t listen to and look at the wrong things and expect our hearts and heads to be in the right place.
There’s a song we used to sing in church. It starts out, Change my heart oh, God. Make it ever true. Change my heart oh, God, may I be like You…..
It doesn’t happen overnight and we will never do it perfectly, but we can live purposefully and make it a priority. Be patient and you will make progress in this area.
May we have PURE hearts.
May we have CLEAN and CLEAR hearts.
May we have RIGHTEOUS hearts.
May we have HOLY hearts.
Many blessings,
Desiree
