Pointing to Jesus

Pointing people to Jesus with encouragement and tangible ways to grow in their Christian faith.

Be Blessed – Part 7- Sermon on the Mount

Matthew 5:9- Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God.

The Greek definition of a peacemaker is one who bravely declares God’s terms, which makes someone whole. In other words, it is someone who proclaims Gods Word so that others can be reconciled to the Prince of Peace, Jesus, who is the only One who can make them whole. It is also reconciling others to  a right relationship with each other, if possible, when there is a separation or a division between them.

Being a peacemaker is more than being a peaceful person. As mentioned above, it involves using our voice or words to reconcile others  to God and, if needed, to each other.

Hebrews 12:14– Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.

Romans 14:19– So then, let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.

1 Thessalonians 5:13b– Be at peace among yourselves.

Psalm 34:14-Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

Romans 12:18– If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

James 3:18- And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

From these verses, we can conclude that God is very serious about us being at peace with everyone. Being at peace with God and others involves us being led by the Spirit,  being humble, forgiving, and living a righteous and holy life, just to name a few.

The reward for being a peacemaker is that we will be called sons (and daughters) of God.

Romans 8:14– For all those who are being led by the Spirit of God, those are the sons of God.

John 1:12- But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,

2 Corinthians 6:18- “and I will be a father to you,and you shall be sons and daughters to me” says the Lord Almighty.

When we  believe in Jesus and receive Him into our lives, we become the sons and daughters of God. The Bible has a lot to say about what that means for us.

Let’s boldy proclaim Jesus’ Word so that others can be reconciled to God and be His sons and daughters.

Many blessings,

Desiree
