Pointing to Jesus

Pointing people to Jesus with encouragement and tangible ways to grow in their Christian faith.

Armor Up- Part 7- The Sword of the Spirit- the Word of God

Ephesians 6:17b – and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

The 6th and final piece of armor in the armor of God is the Word of God, which is also called the Sword of the Spirit. The Word of God is an offensive weapon that we can use against the enemy just like Jesus did in Matthew 4:1-11 when he was tempted by Satan. This is why it is so important to read the Bible daily and also study it.

It is called the Sword of the Spirit because it was written by men who were moved by the Holy Spirit what to write. 2 Timothy 3:16,17- All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.  The phrase “breathed out by God” relates directly to the Holy Spirit. Again, in this verse, we see the word righteousness. The Word of God trains us and teaches us how to be righteous, holy, and live a sanctified life.

The Holy Spirit also reveals to us the truth of God’s Word. We are coming full circle here, as we started with the Belt of Truth and ending this series on the Armor of God with the Word  of God and the Holy Spirit who opens our eyes to the truth of who Jesus is and what He wants us to do.

The Word of God used in Ephesians 6:17 is the Rhema word or spoken word. It means a specific saying or a specific word for a specific need. We can speak the Word of God over our situations. Hebrews 4:12- For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. It is alive and has power!

Read the Word of God and speak it. Use scripture when you pray.

For more about the Bible from my blog, you can read “Light our Way” which was written in January.

Take up the Sword of the Spirit – the Word of God – and stand strong, soldier.

Many blessings,

Desiree
