Armor Up- Part 6- The Helmet of Salvation

Ephesians 6:17a- And take the Helmet of Salvation….

The 5th piece of armor in the Armor of God is the Helmet of Salvation. My prayer is that everyone who reads this is saved or gets saved and becomes a part of the family of God. If you are reading this and have not yet given your life to God, please read my very first blog post entitled, “First Things First.”  It will walk you through what it means to be saved and how to become saved.

Giving our lives  to God and becoming saved is just the first step of our salvation. There is so much more that God wants to give us as His children. He wants to give us abundant life. (John 10:10) In this verse, John contrasts what the enemy wants to do to us (steal, kill, and destroy) vs. what God wants to give us (abundant life).

The enemy will do everything he can to keep us from having that abundant life, and one of the primary ways he does this is through our minds and our thinking. He plants lies in our mind to make us feel defeated. It is impossible to live an abundant life if we allow ourselves to listen to the lies of the enemy.

This is why it is so important to put on the helmet of salvation. Just as a physical helmet would protect both the outside and the inside of the head, spiritually, the helmet of salvation protects our minds from the enemy’s lies. The enemy plants lies in our minds, and if we are not rooted and solid and grounded in God and His Word, we will listen to, believe and agree with what the enemy is telling us.

An example of what the enemy will do is when we are going through a hard circumstances, he will tell us that if God really cared about and loved us, He would not make us go through something so hard or would take us out of the hard situation. We can rest assured that God has a purpose and plan for everything we go through in life and that He is for us and not against us. Jeremiah 29:11-For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

He also plants seeds of doubt in our minds just like he did to Eve in the garden- Genesis 3. Eve doubted and believed the serpent’s lie.

When we are saved, the Holy Spirit helps us recognize what is true and what is not. We need to know what the Word of God says and put it in our minds so that we can use it as a weapon against the enemy just like Jesus did in Matthew 4:1-12 and Luke 4:1-13.

The helmet of salvation is linked to righteousness, holiness, and sanctified living, just like peace and faith are.  Romans 12:1,2–  I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

We also need to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. When we know that a certain thought or thoughts do not align with what God’s Word says, we need to bind it, take it captive, and get rid of it so that it does not take root in our minds. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5- For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.

The Bible tells us what to think about- Philippians 4:8- Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Our thoughts are so important because our actions will follow our thoughts. Memorize and study the Bible. Fill and flood your mind with God’s thoughts and defeat the enemy’s lies with God’s truth.

Put on the Helmet of Salvation and stand strong, soldier.

Many blessings,

Desiree
