Ephesians 6:15– And, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given us by the gospel of peace.
The 3rd piece of armor that the Bible tells us to put on is having our feet fitted with the readiness or preparation of the gospel of peace. A soldier would not be ready to do much if they did not have shoes on their feet. Their shoes would protect them from the elements of the battlefield. They would also provide them stability and help them be able to move.
Spiritually, we are not completely prepared or ready to go to battle against the enemy without our shoes of the gospel of peace. In the natural, shoes can help us move quicker, better, stay longer, be more stable and more. Because we are in a spiritual battle, our shoes of the gospel of peace will help us to stand firm in our fight against the enemy and be ready to advance God’s kingdom with the gospel of peace.
Gospel means Good News. We are to be spreading the good news of Jesus. As followers and disciples of Jesus, we should be spreading the Good News, however, and wherever we can. Isaiah 52:7- How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”
The gospel is a gospel of peace because Jesus is our peace. Ephesians 2:14- For He himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility.
In the two previous posts, we learned about the Belt of Truth and the Breastplate of Righteousness. The more truth you know, and live out, and the more righteous you live, the more peace you will experience. The Bible connects righteousness and peace in several verses.
Psalm 85:10– Steadfast love and faithfulness meet; righteousness and peace kiss each other.
Isaiah 32:17– And the effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness, and trust forever.
Romans 14:17– For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
James 3:18– And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
The above are just a few verses. There are other verses as well that connect peace with sanctification, holiness, departing from evil, etc. which are all a part of righteousness. These verses are Psalm 37:7; Psalm 119:165; Psalm 34:14, Philippians 4:6-9; Romans 8:6; I Thessalonians 5:23; 1 Peter 3:9-11; Hebrews 12:14.
Put on those shoes of the Gospel of Peace and stand strong, soldier.
Many blessings,
Desiree
