Armor Up- Part 2- The Belt of Truth

Ephesians 6:14a- Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth,…

The Belt of Truth is the first piece of spiritual armor that the Bible tells us to put on. A belt can hold things up, such as pants . It can hold things together. It can be used to hold things in such as a tool belt. In Bible times, belts were a very important piece of the soldiers armor. It had many uses for them as well. They could tuck their  cloak in it if they needed to move more easily, it helped them to stand upright because it was around their waist, and it was used to hold other pieces of their armor such as their sword.

The Greek word for truth is Alethia, which means truth of idea, reality, truth in the moral sphere, straightforwardness, or reality as opposed to illusion.  Living in the truth helps us to stand strong like we talked about last week.

There is only 1 truth and only 1 standard of truth that we stand on.  The enemy wants to keep us from knowing the truth so that we won’t live in the truth. Remember, we need every single part of the armor to defeat the enemy and his lies. In John 8:44, Jesus says that the devil is the father of lies, and there is no truth in him.

Jesus is the truth –  John 14:6- Jesus said to himI am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father except through Me. To know Jesus is to know truth.

The truth sets us free- John 8:31, 32- So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” We know truth when we abide in the Word of God. The Word of God sets us free.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth- John 14:17- And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.  Also see John 15:26 and John 16:13.  The Holy Spirit is our Helper, and He guides us into all truth.

We are sanctified by truth – John 17:17Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. Jesus was praying this to God. The truth of God’s Word helps us to live a sanctified life. Sanctified means to be set apart for a holy purpose. When we live a sanctified, holy life, we are living in truth.

Armor up with Truth every day and defeat the enemy and his lies with it.

Stay strong, stand, and put on that Belt of Truth. We can do this with God’s help. We don’t do it on our own. He’s always there to help us. We just need to ask Him.

Many blessings,

Desiree
