Psalms 100:1-4 NIV
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.
Praise and worship are such powerful tools that God has given us to use in our daily lives. There really is power in our praise and worship, whether we are singing in church or in the car, or at home listening to and singing along to Christian music. Praise and worship help get our focus off ourselves and onto God. It also helps remind us of who God is.
We are commanded in scripture to worship and praise God. There are many times in scripture where God intervened and miracles happened when people began praising and worshipping.
One example of a miracle that happened in the Bible was in 2 Chronicles 20 when armies from different nations were coming to attack Judah, King Jehosaphat heard about it, and he prayed and fasted. The people of Judah also prayed. A prophetic word came from Jahaziel that the battle was the Lord’s and not theirs and that God would deliver them. King Jehosaphat put the singers in front of the army. Here are a few verses from 2 Chronicles 20:
2 Chronicles 20:18-19, 21-22 NIV
[18] Jehoshaphat bowed down with his face to the ground, and all the people of Judah and Jerusalem fell down in worship before the Lord. [19] Then some Levites from the Kohathites and Korahites stood up and praised the Lord, the God of Israel, with a very loud voice.
[21] After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: “Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever.” [22] As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated.
Another miracle that happened in the Bible is in Acts 16 when Paul and Silas were in prison:
Acts 16:25-26 NIV
[25] About midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. [26] Suddenly, there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once, all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.
Praise and worship can be the tools that God uses to produce miracles! And you don’t have to wait until Sunday to praise and worship. You can praise and worship every day! You can listen to it on your phone or on your tv at home or in your car. There are 3 Christian radio stations in my area that I listen to- Air One, The Fish, and K-Love.
I would like to challenge you to listen to praise and worship every day. It will help to set your heart and mind on God and will inspire and encourage you in your walk with God.
Many blessings,
Desiree
