Be Blesed- Part 4- Sermon on the Mount

Matthew 5:6- Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

This is the 4th beatitude from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. He said that we are blessed when we hunger and thirst for righteousness and that hunger and thirst will be satisfied.

To hunger means to crave intensely or to seek with eager desire. Thirst means to eagerly long for those things that refresh, support, and strengthen the soul. Righteousness is the things that are right in God’s eyes.

Righteousness is also anything that is good and moral according to God’s standard. God’s standards are only found in the Bible. These are the things that we should be desiring and longing for. When we desire to live this way, we will be filled, satisfied, and fulfilled.

We can hunger and thirst for righteousness by praying that God would give us the desire for it. We can also do the things that are right according to the Bible.  We won’t find righteousness apart from God and His Word.

We are blessed (happy or divinely favored) when we are hungry and thirsty for God’s  righteousness, and then that hunger and thirst will be satisfied by God Himself.

May we all eagerly desire and long for the things that are right in God’s eyes and according to His standards set out for us in the Bible.

Blessings,

Desiree
