Pointing to Jesus

Pointing people to Jesus with encouragement and tangible ways to grow in their Christian faith.

Stay Faithful

Proverbs 3:3,4- Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.

Faithfulness is the 7th fruit of the Spirit in Galations 5:22. Biblical faithfulness can be defined as fidelity or steadfast adherence to another person or God despite difficult or challenging circumstances. In this post, we are talking about faithfulness to God. It is trusting God and His promises. It means that no matter your circumstances, you are not going to stray away from God and live your life without Him.  Faithfulness looks like being reliable, steadfast, unwavering, and loyal to God and His Word.

There are many examples of men and women in the Bible who stayed faithful to God despite some of them being in very difficult circumstances. Some of these men and women are Job, Joseph, Moses, Abraham, Ruth,  Esther, Hannah, Paul, after his conversion, and Timothy.  These people chose to trust and believe God and remained faithful to Him.

God is our highest example of faithfulness. Psalm 36:5 says, “Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.”  We can follow God’s example of faithfulness.

Like the other fruit of the Spirit, faithfulness is not a trait that we produce on our own- it is a result of the Holy Spirit working in our lives. Without the Holy Spirit’s help, it is very difficult to stay faithful to God during difficult times of our lives.

Faithfulness is an important character trait to cultivate because we want to be an example of what faithfulness looks like. We want to pass it on to the next generation- our kids, grandkids, niece’s and nephews, young people in our church, and everybody around us.

If you haven’t been faithful in the past, you can start now by making up your mind that with the Holy Spirit’s help, you will be found faithful from here on out. Make up your mind that no matter what situation you face, no matter how hard or how long, you are going to stay faithful to God.

We can be faithful by continuing to follow and stay true to God and His Word.  When life is hard or painful, we take the pain to God and allow Him to help us.  Ask God for the strength to go through difficult times with Him.  Don’t let the enemy win.

Remember that God is with us and for us, and we never go through anything alone. With God, there is always a purpose for our pain, and there will be triumph from our trial if we stay faithful to God. I’ve seen it in my own life.

There is an old song sung by Steve Green called “Find us Faithful.” I encourage you to look it up and listen to it.

Make a commitment today that you will be found faithful to God in everything. The Holy Spirit is always ready to help.

Blessings,

Desiree
